Flor de La Vida Eco-retreat is managed by Pete Aviles and Mar Berdejo and is an ongoing project that is a manifestation of our shared life dream.
Our intent is to create an authentic, safe, and loving experience where people can learn and partake in off-grid living.
Pete was born in United States and moved to Mexico six years ago. He originally came to Mexico to be treated with Ibogaine for opiate addiction (which started after he became paralyzed in a snowboarding accident in 2004 and was prescribed opiates for pain). That experience changed his own life in a profound way, and showed him the tremendous healing power of connection to ourselves, nature, and others. The experience also set him on the beautiful and fulfilling path of helping people in their own struggle through connection, and by facilitating moments, spaces, and ceremonies for people in need. Immediately after his own treatment, he began assisting with aftercare for those who had undergone Ibogaine treatment, and he found great joy in sharing that experience with others and facilitating the integration of that experience into their daily lives. Petie is a music producer, photographer and visionary artist. His love of life and nature and his very characteristic sense of humor keeps his heart young. He has a special connection with all children. He loves to share love and joy with friends, and he always keeps a positive and real point of view, finding the beauty in every situation and in every person. He has been volunteering for Entre Amigos (a community center in San Pancho), teaching art to kids and helping with other art projects. Petie has become a committed father by choice, always supporting his kids and making them part of all the projects he undertakes.
Marianna (aka Mar) is originally from Mexico City, and moved to Puerto Vallarta in 2009 with her one-year-old son, Mateo. She is an animal lover beyond comparison. She has worked as an animal caretaker and behaviorist for more than ten years. Mar has been part of many social programs. Currently, she coordinates the volunteer program for Entre Amigos and is part of their social leadership program, facilitating workshops related to communication, emotional intelligence, and mindfulness. Her studies in psychology help her communicate and understand the needs of the others. Marianna now has two children, Azul (5) and Mateo (10).
Azul is a very happy girl who loves singing and butterflies. She is being homeschooled and spends a lot of time in the garden. Mateo is a charismatic and helpful boy, who loves to go hiking and is a very good artist. He speaks fluent English and loves to be part of the guest activities. Both kids are very social and independent. They are part of the daily routine and are very accustomed to guests. Both will be charming and sociable, but also will give space and respect to all the guests.
Mar and Petie met in San Pancho, where they became best friends and realized they had many dreams in common, primarily their shared dream to connect with nature and share their love and life experience with others. They started working together and facilitated some retreats and ceremonies that were very fulfilling to all involved. They moved to Flor de la Vida in 2016 to start the Flor de la Vida Retreat and After Care Program
